God Restores - What Has Been Lost

God Restores - What Has Been Lost
“[KJV] And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten.”
Joel 2:25

DEVOTIONAL: GOD IS STILL ABLE TO RESTORE

Throughout my journey in life and ministry, I have learned that not every season unfolds the way we expect. Some seasons are filled with joy, while others bring disappointment, loss, exhaustion, and tears.

There are things we hoped would happen but never came to pass. There are missed opportunities, wounded relationships, and experiences that leave deep marks on our hearts. Sometimes, we find ourselves asking, “Lord, can what has been lost ever be restored?”

As I reflect on Joel 2:25–27, I am reminded that loss does not have to be the end of our story when we continue to place our hope in God. This promise was originally given to the people of Israel in the context of their restoration. It reminds us of God's mercy and power, even though restoration does not always mean that everything will return to the way it once was.

1. GOD SEES WHAT HAS BEEN LOST

Some losses are visible to others, while others are known only to us and to God. Perhaps we have lost our passion, confidence, joy, or even the strength to continue moving forward.

In ministry, we can also experience weariness and exhaustion. We give our time, energy, and hearts to serve others, yet sometimes we ourselves are the ones who need healing and restoration.

I have learned that I do not need to pretend to be strong before God. He knows our wounds, understands our emotions, and sees the struggles we are going through. Even when others do not fully understand what we are experiencing, God knows every burden we carry.

Therefore, let us bring every disappointment, sorrow, and brokenness before Him.

2. GOD IS ABLE TO RESTORE OUR LIVES

God's restoration does not necessarily mean returning to our former circumstances. Sometimes, His restoration comes through renewed strength to begin again, wisdom to make better decisions, and faith to take the next step forward.

I am learning more deeply that restoration is not simply about recovering what we once possessed. Restoration also means becoming more mature, growing stronger in faith, and learning to depend more fully on God.

We may not be able to change our past, but we can entrust our future to Him.

What once caused pain can become a testimony of God's faithfulness. Difficult experiences can shape our character, deepen our compassion, and teach us to understand the struggles of others.

3. A RESTORED LIFE BECOMES A TESTIMONY

In Joel 2:26–27, the restoration of Israel leads the people to praise God and to know Him more deeply.

This reminds me that God does not restore us merely for our own benefit. He also desires to use our lives to strengthen, encourage, and bless others.

When God renews our strength after a difficult season, we become better equipped to encourage those who are struggling.

We are restored not simply to continue living, but also to become channels of God's blessings to the people around us.

This is my heartfelt desire through REVIVE BORNEO: To see hearts revived, lives restored, and God's people rising again to become faithful witnesses of His love, grace, and power.

< PERSONAL REFLECTION >

Today, I want to remind myself that I do not have to continue living under the shadow of yesterday's losses. I cannot change everything that has happened, but I can surrender my past into God's hands.

There may still be areas of my life that have not been fully restored and there may still be prayers waiting for answers. Nevertheless, I choose to keep walking by faith because I believe that God is still at work in my life.

What has been lost may not return in exactly the same form, but God is still able to give new hope, renewed strength, and a fresh sense of purpose.

Do not give up. Keep trusting God. Keep hoping in Him!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, Thank You for being a God who is full of love, mercy, and compassion. Today, I surrender every loss, disappointment, painful memory, and wounded area of my heart into Your loving hands. Lord, restore my heart, renew my strength, strengthen my faith, and give me the courage to move forward. Help me not to remain trapped in the pain of yesterday, but to walk confidently in the hope that comes from You. Father, I also pray for families, churches, and ministry leaders who are experiencing weariness, discouragement, and difficult seasons. Renew their passion, restore their joy, and strengthen them as they continue serving You. May Your grace sustain those who are tired, Your peace comfort those who are hurting, and Your love bring hope to those who feel discouraged. Use our restored lives to encourage others and to reflect Your goodness and faithfulness. Revive our hearts. Restore our lives. Raise us up to become witnesses of Your glory. May everything You do in and through our lives bring honour and glory to Your holy name. In the mighty name of our Lord Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
