God's Mission, Our Calling — The Body of Christ
“As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”
John 20:21

Raised Up to Be Sent, Sent Out to Reach the Nations!

THE HISTORY OF MISSIONS: A LEGACY TO BE CONTINUED

The history of Christian ministry in Borneo is a story of faith, sacrifice, and obedience to God's calling. As early as 1848, Anglican missionary work was established in Kuching through Francis Thomas McDougall. Later, on 31 August 1928, the Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM) was founded in Melbourne, Australia. Three missionary pioneers, Hudson Southwell, Frank Davidson, and Carey Tolley, arrived in Kuching on 12 November 1928 to begin missionary work in Sarawak. This ministry subsequently expanded into the interior regions and Sabah, becoming part of the historical development of the Borneo Evangelical Church (SIB).

They travelled through jungles, crossed rivers, and visited remote villages, facing numerous challenges involving language, culture, health, and daily living. Yet, their love for Christ and their deep desire to see people from all nations come to know the Gospel kept them moving forward.

Today, we are enjoying the fruits of the sacrifices made by previous generations. The question is: Are we merely content to inherit the results of their ministry, or are we willing to continue the mission they started?

Mission is not merely one of the church's programmes. Mission is at the very heart of God and the primary calling of His Church. From the beginning, God has had a plan to reach all nations through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Church is not called merely to gather and worship, but also to be sent out, proclaim the Gospel, and make disciples of all nation

The history of Christian missions is filled with individuals who courageously surrendered their lives to bring the Gospel to people who had never heard of Christ.

William Carey (1761–1834), widely recognised as a pioneer of the modern missionary movement, once delivered a famous challenge:

“Expect great things; attempt great things.”

This statement reminds the Church that faith in God must be accompanied by the courage to take action and fulfil His mission.

C. T. Studd (1860–1931), a missionary who served in China and Africa, once said:

“Some wish to live within the sound of a chapel bell; I wish to run a rescue mission within a yard of hell.”

His words reflect a deep passion to reach those who are still living far from the salvation found in Christ. Mission is not about personal comfort, but about being willing to bring the Gospel to those who desperately need it.

BORNEO: GOD'S MISSION FIELD

Borneo is home to a rich diversity of ethnic groups, languages, cultures, and generations. This diversity presents a tremendous opportunity for the Church to demonstrate the love of Christ and proclaim the Gospel in ways that are relevant, loving, and respectful of every community.

However, the question is not simply how many churches have been built or how many people attend worship services. The more important questions are: How many people have yet to hear the Gospel? How many have yet to experience the love and salvation found in Jesus Christ? And who is willing to go and reach them?

Jesus said:

“‘The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” — Matthew 9:37–38

Borneo needs a Church united in heart and purpose, a generation with a missionary vision, leaders with servant hearts, and God's people who are willing to be sent.

Borneo Revival is not merely about spiritual awakening within the Church, but about an awakening of hearts that moves the Church beyond its walls to reach the world.

Let us rise together, go beyond denominational boundaries, unite in prayer, equip God's people, and bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to every ethnic group and generation throughout Borneo.

Do not merely pray for revival. Become part of God's missionary movement!

CONCLUSION: IT IS TIME TO RISE UP AND MOVE FORWARD!

The history of missions in Borneo has been written through the faith, prayers, sacrifices, and obedience of previous generations. Now it is our turn to continue that legacy. We cannot simply take pride in what God has done in the past; we must have the courage to step forward and do what God is calling us to do today.

Borneo Revival is not merely a movement to rekindle spiritual passion, but a calling to mobilise the entire Body of Christ to unite in heart and purpose, work together, and fulfil the Great Commission.

Do not allow denominational differences to divide us. Do not allow organisational interests to limit God's mission. Let us join hands, unite our strengths, and offer our very best to reach every ethnic group and generation throughout Borneo.

The time has come for the Church to rise, God's people to move, and the entire Body of Christ to work together!

We do not simply want to see churches grow bigger; we want to see the Kingdom of God expanded and the name of Jesus Christ glorified throughout Borneo.
