Spiritual Revival Begins with a Holy Heart

Whenever we speak of spiritual revival, we often picture a church filled with the presence of God, passionate prayers, heart-stirring praise, and many souls coming to Christ. However, the history of spiritual revival proves that every true revival always begins with one thing: HOLINESS AND REPENTANCE.

God has never called His people merely to become more active in ministry. He first and foremost calls us to be holy, because holiness reflects the very nature of God Himself. In a world that increasingly blurs the line between right and wrong, God continues to extend the same call to every believer, especially to believers in Borneo today:

"Be ye holy; for I am holy."

Holiness is not just about avoiding visible sin. Holiness is surrendering our entire lives to Christ—our thoughts, words, actions, relationships, social media usage, entertainment, ambitions, and future. Holiness is living a life that grows to look more like Jesus every day.

However, holiness cannot exist without repentance.

The Apostle Peter proclaimed:

"Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;" — Acts 3:19 (KJV)

Repentance is not merely feeling guilty about sin. Repentance is a change of heart that leads to a change of life. It means turning away from sin, turning toward God, and allowing the Holy Spirit to renew our lives. That is where restoration, healing, and renewed spiritual power begin.

We will not experience spiritual revival if we continue to compromise with sin. God looks for a broken, humble heart that is willing to be transformed by Him. When God's people genuinely repent, He pours out His grace and reignites the spiritual fire within His church.

The writer of Hebrews gives a very serious reminder:

"Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:" — Hebrews 12:14 (KJV)

This verse reminds us that holiness is not an option for believers, but a calling that must be pursued every day. Holiness opens our hearts to enjoy God’s presence and to be used by Him as instruments of revival.

Today, Borneo needs more than just spiritual programs, conferences, or activities. Borneo needs a generation that hungers for God, kneels in prayer, remains faithful to the Word, courageously rejects sin, and lives in holiness. True spiritual revival does not start on a stage; it starts in the prayer closet. It begins when believer after believer humbles themselves, repents, and surrenders their life fully to Christ.

May God raise up a generation across all of Borneo that chooses the path of holiness in the midst of a darkening world. May they be a light that leads many to Jesus Christ. May the fire of spiritual revival ignite first within our hearts, and then reach our families, churches, communities, and the whole of Borneo—for the glory of God's name.

Reflection

Is my heart truly clean before God? Am I willing to lay aside anything that hinders my relationship with Christ, so that God can begin a spiritual revival through my life?

"Spiritual revival does not begin when the church becomes busier. Spiritual revival begins when the hearts of God's people return to holiness and repentance."
