Prayers for Marudi

Marudi is a town well known for the Baram Regatta. The Baram Regatta began in 1899, when Marudi became the administrative center of the Baram area during the Brooke rule. Charles Hose, who was the Resident of Baram at the time, sought ways to reduce conflict and warfare between ethnic groups in the area.

A major peace conference was held in Marudi in April 1899. After that, boat racing was introduced as a form of competition that replaced armed rivalry with sports competition.

Baram is an area with a diverse population, including the Kenyah, Kayan, Iban, Orang Ulu, Malay, Chinese, and other communities. The regatta became one of the places where people from different backgrounds gathered, competed in a healthy manner, and celebrated their shared culture.

Today, that spirit continues. The 2026 Baram Regatta itself carries the theme “Peace, Unity and Progress,” emphasizing peace, unity, and progress.

1. Let us declare the town of Marudi to become a center of unity and harmony for the people of Sarawak, fulfilling the word of God from :

Psalm 133:1 - A Song of Ascents, of David. How good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!

We destroy the spirits of division, the spirit of jealousy toward one another, envy, and negative competition against one another, so that ethnic groups will not be divided.

In the spiritual context, we declare that Marudi has the potential to become a place of unity and even a center for churches in the interior, especially in the Baram area.

We declare Marudi to become a center of prayer/prayer tower for the surrounding areas.

Isaiah 62:6–7 - Watchmen Who Do Not Remain Silent

“On your walls, Jerusalem, I have set watchmen; all the day and all the night they shall never be silent. You who put the LORD in rememberance, take no rest, and give him no rest untill he establishes Jerusalem and makes it a praise in the earth.”

2. Pray for ISCF students in schools, that they will remain focused and grow in their faith. Pray that ISCF teachers will continue to be willing to give themselves to be involved in ISCF ministry. Pray that students will also remain faithful in going to the house of God and not only attend Christian activities at school.

Pray that social issues such as truancy, bullying, drug cases, and others can be addressed through God's intervention. May God's visitation take place in the schools.

3. Pray for the local churches to have unity and openness to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Let revival take place.

Pray for the YBs and community leaders in Marudi, that they will be given wisdom in helping the people of Marudi. Pray that they will be kept away from all acts of corruption and abuse of power.

Jeremiah 29:7 - “But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.”

4. Pray for the road network project connecting:

Miri ↔ Marudi ↔ Baram ↔ Limbang/Lawas ↔ Sabah

We pray that through the development and provision of better roads :

• Marudi can be transformed from a stopover town into a connecting hub. This can help evangelism and ministry in the interior more effectively. More churches can be built in the interior because of better road access.

• Business opportunities can increase. More people passing through Marudi means that demand for accommodation, food, services, transportation, and trade can increase.

• Baram will become more open to development.

• Marudi can become more strategically important to Northern Sarawak.
